The Masked Critic’s List of Best & Worst Movies of 2010

Here is my review on this years Best & Worst Movies

(Keep in mind I missed a couple of movies so they didn’t make my list, unless I have seen it I don’t’ judge it)

Top 10 Best Movies of 2010

10. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I

Now the movie was pretty good but it wasn’t like jump out of your seat and clap great but that is to be expected. From watching all of the movies there is a bit of a patter of build up on one movie then the next is way better. Still fitting so much book material into the movie is impressive and is one of the few book based movies I will say is just as good as the book.

9. 127 Hours

Based on a true story and contains actual video footage from the ordeal is a great and thrilling combination. Seeing the pain, agony, and uncertainty in the face of the main character makes this film stick in your mind for quite sometime. This film shows ones humanity and determination to live the only way possible.

8. The A-Team

After asking a 20 people that watched the television show and saw the movie I asked them, did you like the movie & did it translate into film well? 5/20 said they hated it because the number one rule of the show was broken and that rule is people got killed and nobody died in the television show. The other 15 liked it and said “It translated well and managed to hold on to most of what made the show awesome”. As for the killing (which is very desceet, mostly explosions) they said they didn’t expect to see no killing scenes as how all the latest action movies have killing in it & they thought the killing was handled well.

7. How to Train Your Dragon

I know it is an animated film but I actually enjoyed it. I mean who wouldn’t want a pet dragon. Anyway it contains the right amount of family fun, action, and of course moral. The different species of dragon were interesting and the animators really brought them to life. Also very funny & worth seeing again and again.

6. The Expendables

Ok with a cast list containing Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Mickey Rourke, Jet Li, Gary Daniels, Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Jason Statham, Terry Crews, and Steve Austin, you know it’s going to be one hell of an action movie. This movie combined some of the greatest action heroes and put them on an unstoppable team. Tons of explosions, killing, and gun fire what more do you want.

5. Predators

Yes I’m a sucker for Sci-Fi movies especially predator. I initially thought it would be very bad like predator 2 but what you have to realize is that all the predator movies (not counting crappy Alien Versus Movies) are not sequels but different encounters with different predators and humans. The plot is still fight to survive a deadly enemy but this time we don’t have home field advantage. Basically the deadliest humans are abducted by a bunch of predators and set loose on a planet the predators use as a hunting preserve. Plus a new species of predator is introduced. Overall it delivered a bunch of good fight scenes and managed to bring the predator back into the light after being screwed by the versus alien movies.

4. Tron

If you didn’t see this movie in 3-D then go @#%^$* yourself. LOL just kidding. Seriously the 3-D affects with amaze you. Yes it is a sequel so if you haven’t see the original (which can only be found on VHS, really hard to find) ask someone who has seen the original so they can fill in a few blanks, thanks dad. LOL) Even if you haven’t see the original, the story line explains itself & man does it deliver. Finally a perfect video game movie that isn’t bad but awesome.

3. Inception

Just wow. Visually stunning & mind bending. Great acting by Leonardo DiCaprio. It’s just simply breath taking & you just can’t imagine what happens next.

2. Toy Story 3

If you haven’t seen this movie, go get it on DVD or Blu-ray now, no I mean literally right now. This movie is actually being considered for best movie of the year. It manages to bring laughter to the young and old. It is also deeply touching and makes all who see it remember there old toys and the happiness they brought you. I actually cried at this movie & so did the entire theatre. It is simply a masterpiece tie-up to the original two movies. This movie proves the Pixar still can work magic.

1. Iron Man 2

BEST MOVIE OF 2010!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Those of you who know me saw this coming. LOL If you are strictly a movie goers I can see how the film didn’t live up to expectations but if you are comic book savvy you know it was AWESOME!!!!! Someone actually told me it was worse then Spider-man 3 (it’s safe to say that I came close to killing said person because no superhero movie is that bad). This movie combines laughter and awesome visual affects (Scarlet Johansson). If your comic book savvy you would know that Tony stark/iron mans character is always making decisions that either end extremely well or extremely bad. This movie also addressed one of the comic books main obstacles for Tony Stark and that’s alcohol, he was one of the first superheroes to actually have real world problems which interfered with his life. Anyway moving on,Don Cheadle ended up being a way better James Rhodes/War Machine then Terrence Howard. Samuel Jackson reprises his role as Nick Fury & despite his small appearance he still looked and acted very awesome. Mickey Rourke made a kick as villain with his creepy look and accent. And Last but not least, Scarlett Johansson as the hot, sexy, but dangerous agent Black Widow. I thought the movie ended well and I can’t wait to see The Avengers Movie (IronMan, Captain America, Thor, and The Hulk) as well as Iron Man 3.

Worst Movies of 2010

12. Johna Hex

Worst comic book ased movie ever. I rather watch Spider-Man 3 twice. Also movie reveals Megan Fox’s inability to act good and relies solally on how hot she looks.

11. Alice in Wonderland

The only reason I remotely liked this film was because of Johnny Depps Performance. He adds a new visual and vibe to the old character The Mad Hatter. The lead Mia Wasikowska as Alice is completely lifeless and every time she speaks it is as hollow as can be. The Story & plot was a bit confusing & extremely boring for 8/10 of the movie. The 3-D was also done poorly

10. Legion

Humanity versus God & his Angel Warriors. Sounds like an awesome story but lacked the visual affects and actors to make it big. Plot was remotely interesting but the bad acting and confusing storyline were too much to handle. If directed better it could have been way better.

9. Kick-Ass

Liked the idea of real life heroes but it ended up being a sad and stupid story. Basically it’s like being batman but totally lame and having Or interesting back story or purpose in fighting crime.

8. Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief

I’m sure the book is good but it felt like a Harry potter remake to me.

7. Clash of the Titans

Apparently we have run out of new things to make movies about so we are trashing all the old ones with remakes. I think I liked 1 scene and that’s it. I’d rather watch the original twice in a row.

6. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn

Yeah I know what you’re thinking “why did Tim go see this? Believe me not by choice basically had to take siblings to go see a movie and despicable me was sold out”. I wanted to tear my hair and eyes out. Total piece of $%^&*@. It felt like a ton of stupid storyline and acting all rolled up into one. Again I’m sure books are good but movie is down right bad.

5. Frozen

Seriously think open water (which was actually quite good) but 3 people stranded on a ski lift high above the grand for a week. That right there I was like what? Yeah it pretty boring and the characters cry too much and the acting was terrible. At one point 1 of the 3 jumps off to see if he can go for help. He breaks both legs and is eaten by wolves. Terrible plot, acting, and ending. The tagline is pretty funny though, “Terrifying will do for skiing what Jaws did for swimming”. Incase your stupid this can be avoided by not going on the ski lift after the resort closes (dumbass people). Like Jaws my ass. I rather watch Jaws 123 and 4 twice in a row.

4. Piranha 3D

I’m sorry but I had to. I needed to be able to say I saw it in 3-D. Totally bad, slightly funny, and the acting was beyond horrible I could have done better with no script. Giant trim under lake releases prehistoric piranha, O and it just so happens that it is spring break & a ton of stereotypical teens are waiting to get eaten.

3. A Nightmare on Elm Street

Totally butchered the original. So bad & took away a lot that made the original great.

2. Step up 3D

Do I have to say anything? I would have rather watched real people dance. You know what I should have just watched dancing with the stars.LOL Again saw it but not by choice.

1. Avatar the Last Air bender

WORST MOVIE THIS YEAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Aside from Ang the Avatar none of the actors resembled there cartoon canter parts. They crammed an entire season into 1 movie and I could go on and on. Why is Zukos scar a slight blemish. Why are Sakao and Katara white? Why can’t the fire benders make fire them selves? Why did M’Night even do this movie? It was so bad I went home and watched all three seasons of the show to get the crap I had just seen out of my head. The only thing scarier than this movie is that there are still two more seasons that could be made into movies. Any way for all of you lovers of the show there is a confirmed sequel that you can read about here. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avatar:_Legend_of_Korra

Sounds different but can’t be worse than the movie.

That’s my list & I’m sticking to it. 2010 Had some truly epic movies and some sorry they saw the light of day movies. You heard it here from The Masked Critic.
