Captain America: The First Avenger Movie Review

Captain America: The First Avenger Movie Review

I am now even more proud to be an American. Let’s face it not all the superhero movies live up to the characters or comics there based on but man this is probably the best superhero movie out there. (& I really mean it seeing as my favorite is Iron Man) This movie hits the nail on the head & can be enjoyed by Captain America fans & those just getting in to it. The movies had a great balance of action, romance, seriousness, and surprisingly well placed comedy. You get the origin of Steve Rogers, the rise of Captain America, and Captain America’s revival all in one movie & it did not feel rushed.

The film contained a great roster of stars including

Dominic Cooper as Howard Stark-(Loved him as Tony Stark’s father, perfect casting)

Chris Evans as Steve Rogers/Captain America-(Wasn’t sure at first but he was great & played a better Cap than human torch)

Hugo Weaving as The Red Skull-(It is simply chilling how realistic he looks & he is one of the best villains ever)

Tommy Lee Jones as Colonel Chester Phillips-(Definitely one of my favorite characters because as usual TLJ manages to breath wisdom, courage, strength, and a hint of humor to make a character that would normal not standout one of the best characters of the movie).

On top of all that the movie was littered with hidden hints & Easter eggs.

·         The Cosmic Cube is seen at the end of “Thor” and it makes a big debute in this movie as The Red Skull’s Doomsday power source. The comic book savvy people will also know that the Cosmic Cube is so powerful that not just 1 hero can stop it. Wink wink.

·         James “Bucky” Barnes (AKA Steve Rogers/Caps childhood friend), who makes a big appearance in the movie. Is more than likely comes back from the dead like cap as The Winter Soldier because he falls into the ice, which will no doubt be the plot for Captain America 2.

·         Those of you who are avenger comic savvy will automatically know that this mad scientist continues to serve the red skull in the comics after turning himself into a cyborg. So he will no doubt be present again in the Avengers movie or the Cap 2 movie.

·         The famous “Cap” cover (which features Cap punching Hitler) gets a big, big shout out in “Captain America: The First Avenger. I won’t say how or when because you will have to see to believe.

·         Finally you will notice a man named Timothy ‘Dum Dum’ Dugan was part of Cap’s Special Forces group (The howling Commandos). In the comics this character is second in command of shields next to Nick Fury. Another one of the Howling Commandoes featured in the cap movie is James Montgomery Falsworth. Who in the comics later becomes the hero known as Union Jack.

Conclusion

Anyway this movie was pleasantly surprising. I mean knowing who Captain America is in the comics. I wasn’t expecting as much as say Iron Man or Thor but man this movie was way more entertaining. I would even go so far as to say that it deserves to at least be nominated for best picture, seeing as it is very realistic & covers a multitude of genres.

I give this movie a well deserved 10 out of 10
