MOVIE REVIEW OF Marvel’s THOR
MARVEL’s THOR MOVIE REVIEW BY THE MASKED CRITIC!!!!!!
Well after winning a build your own Thor Hammer Contest at one of my favorite Comic Book Shops (Just goes to show what you can make out of duck tape, cardboard,& cloth in 4 hours), I received an early preview pass for an early showing of Marvel’s newest movie Thor.
Any way on to the review.
After seeing the movie (in 3-D). I was very impressed. The best thing about this movie was the actors chosen for each role. I was skeptical at first about Chris Hemsworth playing Thor because beforehand he did not possess the build of the character & he was an almost unheard of Actor. My fears were laid to rest as he fit the character perfectly, even being able to pull off the characters weird accent. Thor may be the main character but by far the best character was Odin, played by Anthony Hopkins. That’s right Hannibal Lecter played Thor’s Daddy.LOL Now Odin’s character in the comics is very full of himself and demands respect from all no questions asked (Very king/ruler like) but man did Hopkins own the character. The boom in his voice fit the character beyond perfectly & surprising did well portraying the character’s small moments of kindness, it was as if the character jumped off the pages of the comic book. Now on to the villain of the movie Loki aka Thor’s half brother, played by Tom Hiddleston. Now again I was a bit skeptic on the character choice because I am not familiar with him but man did Marvel do their home work. He was brilliant in being able to mimic Loki’s ability to hide trickery/mischief behind a deceiving smile. Definitely one of the best played villains in the Marvel Comics movies. Now on to Thor’s beautiful co-star Natalie Portman playing Thor’s mortal love interest Jane Foster. As always Natalie Portman was able to mix gorgeousness with intelligence to make one of the most believable characters of the movie. She was able to nail her characters persona perfectly, you could absolutely feel her characters emotions explode.
Now onto the supporting cast consisting of Thor’s friends and fellow warriors, Volstagg, Hogun, and Fandral (aka the warriors 3) played by Ray Stevenson, Tadanobu Asano, and Josh Dallas. These characters are especially liked characters among Thor comic book readers because they show the wide variety of personalities among the other Asgardians. There characters were chosen flawlessly and I especially enjoyed seeing the character Volstagg on the big screen, due to his sense of humor and jolliness.
The movies scenery was breath taking & it takes you from the beautiful city of Asgard (Thor’s home), the frozen tundra of the Frost giant home world, to the desserts of earth, and all the cosmos in between. The music made every fight scene more epic and every love moment seem to last forever(in a good way).If I had one complaint it would be that it felt like the movie was rushed, Which I can’t really blame on anyone because Thor’s origin is big but an extra 20 minutes wouldn’t have hurt. Another plus was the movie was surprising funny and as always Stan Lee’s cameo was very funny. O and wait till after the credits for ((SPOILER ALERT)) an after scene containing Nick Fury & what I believe to be The Cosmic Cube item from the Marvel Comics.
I give this movie a 9 out of 10 ((THE MASKED CRITIC HAS SPOKEN!!!!!!!!))
