TRANSFORMERS 3: DARK OF THE MOVIE REVIEW

Ok let’s get some things strait. Don’t listen to the critics ok most of them don’t understand how a geeky movie should be and more than often expect a fricken Broadway play out of everything. So here is the truth coming from one of the geekiest people out there.

Ok the third & final (Yeah we have heard that before) installment of the transformers live action movie trilogy brings back a lot of familiar characters but adds a bunch new ones. The new faces consist of Rosie Whiteley playing Sam’s new girl friend Carly Spencer(yes for some unexplained reason Shia LaBeouf’s character Sam is able to score another class A hotty but this time this one can act & probably won’t make the mistake of comparing the Director to Hitler, yeah that’s why Fox got fired for those who did not know). I actually enjoyed her in this 1 movie then I did Fox in the last 2 films. There are also 2 new transformer characters that are introduced in this film are the Decepticon Shockwave & the original leader of the Autobots & Optimus Primes master Sentinel Prime, who by the way is also voiced by the one only Leonard Nimoy-also pay attention because his character will also say several Spock Quotes.

The Story (Don’t worry I won’t give anything big away), Ok as some of you might have figured out from the trailers we haven’t been completely honest with the Autobots about a couple of things. An Autobot ship crashed landed on the moon in 1961 which was detected by U.S. scientists. During the Apollo Moon landing a secret mission was tasked to Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin to find the source of the big heat signature. This mission takes place in the time that contact with the shuttle was lost but the whole technical difficulty thing was all staged to hide the mission. They find something that may very well cause the destruction of earth. From then on it turns out into an all out war zone in present day. I won’t say who but one of my favorite good characters dies. Every war has a price that must be paid.

Ok The Negatives

I personally don’t have a problem with it but parents who are strict with the kids may have a problem with a couple of scenes where Decepticons actually shoot at civilians. (Not like in the previous films where deaths are masked by explosions, there graphically incinerated). I honestly got a little sick of Shia LaBeouf’s acting towards the end (starting to be less talk more ear splitting scream). A tad too many hot girl explosions from behind shots in slow motion during important scenes.

Now The Positives

This film unlike the second film manages to find a good balance between Storyline/character development and AWESOME robot fighting action. I actually cared a lot about certain characters good & bad human & bot. ON top of that I was genuinely caught off guard at a some of the plot twists, which doesn’t normally happen to a geek such as myself when it comes to movies such as this. The movie delivered a lot of action and a surprising amount of humor and jokes which kept things fresh. There are also a lot of pop culture references that in my opinion were fun to see & look for. The coolest pop culture reference was the introduction of the Autobot team known as the Wreckers. This group consists of 3 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Chevrolet Impala stock cars, Leadfoot, as Juan Pablo Montoya’s  #42 Target car, Roadbuster as Dale Earnhardt, Jr’s #88 AMP Energy/National Guard car, and finally Topspin as Jimmie Johnson’s #48 Lowe’s/Kobalt car.

FAN QUOTES & REACTIONS

Here are some quotes from fans I interviewed after the pre-screening

Blake Urbantke- “HOLLY CRAP THAT WAS AWESOME!!!”

John Williams-“Better than the first 2 combined”

Ashley Rose-“Wow way better than I expected, I am going to go see it again tomorrow”

Ted Jacobs-“A perfect send off to great trilogy but I wouldn’t mind one more”

Despite a few flaws this was way better than I expected. I give this film an 8 out of 10.
